Wendy Izzo PerrySummer and warm weather are finally on the way! This means that all us Northeasterners will be trading in our sweaters and boots for the summer staples - sun dresses and flip flops. I've been marveling at the flip flop phenomenon (try saying that ten times fast) for the past few years. Really, they're nothing special. Particularly in fashion conscious New York City, they seem to be lacking something.
Luckily, Florida designer, Wendy Izzo Perry has come up with a solution to that problem. Posh Bling Designs adds style to the comfort of summer shoes. Her designs add sparkle and color to your otherwise unadorned feet. Wear them to the beach, the pool, or just strolling around. They're everything you look for in the summer. Posh Bling pushes your definition of summer shoes by including fun, couture, bridal shoes and sneakers. They're all so fun. It's hard to choose a favorite.
Here Wendy tells me about the inspiration for her awesome footwear.
Girls Night OutHow long have you been a designer?
I went to the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale for Interior Design, graduated in 1992 with a BS in Interior Design. I ended up being the Senior Designer, designing swimming pools for a large well known South Florida pool construction company, model home pools, high-end pools, award winning pools, pools designs that made it into pool magazines.

I've always had a passion for designing & decorating. Even as a little girl I would decorate my clothes and shoes so I would have something different than everyone else. I loved decorating my bedroom and even my close
Have you always worked in footwear?
No, I never worked in footwear. I have a shoe fetish though. I even keep my shoes in their original box and organized in my closet. Even though I live in South Florida I even own boots for that cold day that I might need to wear them. I have many flip flops now that I've started Posh Bling Designs.
EAU-SO-PRECIOUSHow did you come up with the idea for Posh Bling Designs?
I started buying boutique girlie clothes from Etsy two and a half years ago and met a few nice friends who inspired me to sell my creative designs. I cannot sew but I am very artistic and needed an outlet. My favorite pair of black wedge rhinestone flip flops had broken and couldn't find anything unique and eye catching in the stores. I kept telling myself , "Wendy you can make flip flops as sparkly and glittery as you want." So I researched online the materials I would need to get started, and slowly started making flip flops for myself, Mom and Sister as a trial before I even thought about selling them on Etsy. I searched and Googled and asked many questions about flip flops, ribbons, rhinestone buckles, everything. I think Posh Bling Designs business name just came to me. All the little girlie stuff I liked always had the word POSH in front of it and I always thought of those items as unique, one of a kind. and that's what I wanted for my designs that were all about sparkle and glitz....BLING!
Where do you find inspiration for each piece?
To be honest with you, each piece has a meaning to me and my day to day activities. I may have a flip flop idea in my mind for a few months until all the pieces fall together and look just right to me and then I have this flip flop without a name or I have a name and I search for the materials to make the flip flop come to life for me. All my pieces have BLING and I tend to make them a variety of ways for my customers who love BLING or for those who love it a little bit, but want to sparkle.
Out of the BlueYour creations are so fun and eye-catching. Do you have any favorite materials you like working with?
Rhinestones. Swarovski Crystals are incredible. Pictures don't do the products justice. At least my pictures. I take my own photos for my work and I do my best with what I've got. It's sunny here everyday and I have a pool. Of course a yummy soft flip flop is another favorite. If it's not comfortable I cant work with it. I would never sell something I wouldn't want to wear. Ribbon....I love ribbon. I could look at ribbons and fabrics all day long. To me, its art work on ribbon or fabric. So many varieties. I feel like a kid in the candy store. I cant sew, now, but I will learn. My Aunt gave me her sewing machine that she's had for 30yrs. I am so looking forward to expanding Posh Bling Designs. I want to become more, learn more and offer more. When I want to do something I do it and I don't give up.
