Reverse Night Sky Necklace

I'm savoring the twilight these days.  The one hour we shifted for daylight savings time leaves me acutely aware of the early evening.  This will only last for a week, after that my body will adjust and my mind won'[t care anymore.  In the meantime, I'm thrilled to wake up an hour earlier and notice the dusk on after-work walks with Ollie.

So I made something that twinkles like the stars.

Woodland Rose Necklace

Autumn is in full swing here in Brooklyn.  The trees are erupting in bright hues of orange, yellow and red - reminding me that fall is by far my favorite season.  The streets are alive with color.  The weather is cooler and more conducive for long walks.  The autumn harvest provides a gorgeous array of fruits and vegetables.

Autumn never seems to last long enough.  Soon we'll be in holiday mode which is a slippery slope to winter.

This necklace was made to continue the autumn tones throughout the year.  Warm mahogany and browns roses are complemented by orange beads.  The colors are rich and sophisticated.  The roses themselves remind me of leaves.

You can find this necklace in my Etsy store.

Icelandic Landscape Necklace

I visited Iceland in September of 2000.  The trip was a bit of a consolations prize: I had recently, very bregrudgedly moved to Manhattan with my boyfriend at the time.  Summer in the city wasn't something I was thrilled with - the subways were hot, the cement and buildings offered no natural breeze and the aparetment was a generous 450 square feet.  I'm not a heat person, the summer gets to me after a while, so the trip was a nice gesture, the promise of cool weather in the sweltering heat.

Needless to say, I loved it. I loved the ocean breezes that whipped my face, bringing color to my cheeks.  I loved the people, welcoming and polite. The architecture was beautiful, a mix of contemporary and traditional.  But mostly I loved the landscape.

Lave fields and glaciers cut across the land.  The effect is startling, almost like being on the moon.  This necklace was inspired by that sight.

You can find it in my Etsy store.

The Diva Necklace

I'm on a sudden beading tear.  Just when I thought I'd lost motivation in that area a few ideas came to me (as evidenced by my previous posts).  Inspiration was jump-started this time by a commission.  I love a puzzle.  In this case, I needed to make something neutral, yet daring.  It needed to blend in with the opera crowd, an acoustic movie night, jeans and fancy dress.

In this case it was almost like creating a personality.  A true accessory that played comedian.  The Diva Necklace was the happy result.

Roses and Silk Bracelet

My jewelry preferences change daily.  Once I only wore earrings, then necklaces were my accessory of choise.  Recently, though I've never worn them before (I bang my wrists a lot) I've made the jump in to bracelets.  I liked the Roses and Silk necklace so much, I decided to make it in bracelet form.
