Uncommon Wedding Songs

Shuffling through my music collection for wedding playlists has been fun. Normally, I'm the type of person who hums along with an upbeat tune and then realizing that said song has the most depressing lyrics in the world. As I went looking for music to play at my sister's wedding, I was surprised to find that some of my original selections were not appropriate. Case in point: U2's One is not an appropriate wedding song.
I realized that the music, reflects the couple's personality and their sentiments toward each other. Sure, it's just played in the background, but it does set a mood. Now, I will admit that for my wedding I had a concept for dinner music, involving the space, the guests and setting. My sister's wedding was a very different affair, so I couldn't just play the same music.
So I started listening to not only the music, but the lyrics. I went on the Internet to find examples of poplar wedding songs. Some of them were incredibly obvious, some a little more obscure. To be perfectly honest, for the amount of digging I had to do, the Internet wasn't all that helpful.
So here's my list of alternative, uncommon wedding songs. These fall into the category of some of my all-time favorite love songs. They may not fit for everyone, but the list provides something slightly different from the norm.
- Such Great Heights - Iron & Wine (the Postal Service original works too, but I find this more sentimental)
- Make You Feel My Love - Adele
- All I Want Is You - U2
- Love Is All Around - R.E.M.
- More Than This - Roxy Music (If There Is Something being a close second)
- Beyond The Sea - Bobby Darrin
- Every Day Is A Holiday (With You) - Esthero
- Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - The Police
- The Greatest - Cat Power
- Day Too Soon - Sia
- I'll Come Running - Brian Eno
- Drumming Song - Florence & The Machine
- Just Like Heaven - The Cure
- My Baby Just Cares For Me - Nina Simone
