Happy 4th of July!

My husband and I have a new Independence Day tradition - on July 3rd we go to Coney Island and watch the minor league baseball team Brooklyn Cyclones play.  After the game a fireworks display illuminates the shy over the Coney Island boardwalk.  It's the perfect setting, seeing the lights reflect off the water.  Plus, there is something magical about the boardwalk at night.

Fireworks have been a recurring theme in our relationship.  For our first July 4th together, we took a dinner cruise in New York Harbor and watched the Macy's display from the perfect vantage point.  Our first vacation together was in Montreal, where we saw an part of that year's World Fireworks display.  So it only seems natural that this event would become a tradition.

Tomorrow, we will feel slightly smug knowing we already witnessed a stellar fireworks display.  Perhaps we will walk to Prospect Park and join the crowds in the hot weather.  Perhaps we will watch the display over Bay Ridge from the window of our living room.   Either way, we share a picnic-themed meal and know that summer is in full swing.
