Book Review: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Elizabeth Bennet has always been one of my favorite characters. She is strong, intelligent, thoughtfull and educated. She takes care of her family and is concerned about the well-being of those she loves. Working within the constraints of the time period, she manages with aplomb and grace, gaining the respect and affection of everyone.
In Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!, Seth Grahame Smith ups the ante on this story a bit. Taking Jane Austin's original text, he adds new heroic encounters, illustrations, and a couple of fun plot twists to the original classic. What if a zombie plague has hit Britain and the remaining occupants are under constant threat of attack? What would Eliza Bennet do then? She would become a formidable fighter and zombie killer, that’s what she would do.
It makes for a fun read, even if you haven't read the original. Because Eliza is able to express her power more physically, she is also able to interject a couple of opinions and asides. All in the all, the story remains the same. The truth prevails, the characters learn to balance their pride with their principles and save the country at the same time.

I just saw this book at Target the other day and almost bought it. I love the original, but didn't have the extra money to spend at the time... I suppose now I'll have to go back! lol
Thanks for the review!
