Book Review: Handmade Nation by Faythe Levine & Cortney Heimerl

Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft & Design is my new bible!  In this book, which complements an upcoming documentary, the authors discuss the new new handmade movement, its start and the people who are making it happen.  It raises the question: What is the difference between craft and art?  And the answer is: Does it matter?

The authors go around the country interviewing handmade artists in their studios.  In each case the artist talks about her passion, how she got into her craft and how she became successful.  Reading each consecutive interview made me more and more excited.  Not only does the book include gorgeous photos of their creations and studios, but I feel like I have found my tribe.  Their stories vary, but the heart of what they say remains the same.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is crafty, makes anything, however you want to define it.  The movement is growing. It's an awesome time to participate.
