Figment is an annual arts event on Governors Island, with artwork in every medium, from installation to performance to music to games and many things in between. Participation is open to any artist who would like to share their work. It is a free, non-profit endeavor run by volunteers. In 2008, FIGMENT’s second year, over 10,000 people attended.

Governors Island is a former military base in New York Habor.  It sits a mere 800 yards from Lower Manahattan aside Liberty Island and Ellis Island.  Open from May - October, it functions as a state park.  During this time, a free ferry provides transportation to and from lower Manhattan.  It offers a bit of idyllic charm in the bustling sity.

The 2009 Figment Festival takes place  June 12- 15th.  You can see photos from last year's event here.
