Fortune Cookie Wisdom

I've been collecting fortunes for ages.  There's something so wonderful about that little piece of paper.  After relaxing for a meal it offers a moment to see what the future holds.  Sometimes they offer beautiful, poetic wisdom.  Other times they just make us giggle.  Concise, they offer one simple sentence (and sometimes lucky numbers or a quick lesson in Chinese). There's something so perfect in the message.

What I love about fortunes is that even though we all know the statements are random, we hold them for a moment.  We put them up on our fridges or our computers at work.  We compare them with other people at dinner and sometimes even trade.  I can't count how many times I've said "Oh, this was meant for you."  After receiving "You will be hungry soon, better order take out now" several times, my sister changed Chinese restaurants certain she was missing out on her true fortune.

When I decided to start this project I sent out a call for people's favorite fortunes.  The response was overwhelming.  At first, I had a hard time deciding how to display them.  Obviously, I wanted to incorporate my needlework.  Then I realized that they belong as home items.  Since people are so happy to display the little pieces of paper, why not something more permanent?

My first towel is born "The One Who Snores Will Fall Asleep First."  You willl be able to see the collection here.  And please feel free to send me you favorite fortunes along the way.
