Rockefeller Center Holiday Card

It's easy to be cynical living in New York.  Years ago, I worked in Times Square and I was fortunate to have a work schedule that necessitated I be in by 7am.  I say fortunate because every morning I arrived at Times Square, one of the most famous places in the world, before the people.  At that time of day, I would take in the lights and appreciate where I was.  Yes, I had to wake up obscenely early, but I'm a "glass half full" person.

There are a handful of places that New Yorkers avoid like the plague - Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building - basically the tourist attractions.  This is where the tourists flock.  And no offense to people visiting this city, I live here because it's fantastic, you should come and check it out.  When you're trying to get from point A to point B or do some shopping, a sidewalk crowded with tourists can be very frustrating.

But my Times Square experience taught me something.  There's a reason why people travel to see these iconic locations.  They are truly beautiful and help define this city.  These locations aren't meant to be desolate, this is a city after all.  People make them dynamic.

Rockefeller Center is such a location.  Without people on the rink and in the galleries, it wouldn't have the same energy.  There is something so peaceful about watching skaters glide across the ice.  The sense of scale against the tree and buildings creates the sense of an urban canyon.

You can buy this card through my Etsy store.
