Letter from the Editor

As some of you may know, I was recently hired as Managing Editor with the Park Slope Reader. Published quarterly, the Reader is distributed free in businesses throughout the neighborhood and contains features concerning the community, local businesses and life in the Park Slope/Prospect Heights/Windsor Terrace areas of Brooklyn. It’s a gem of a paper and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.
As with anything new, I was incredibly nervous about my first writing assignment with the paper. I honestly don’t know what I thought would happen. Would people heckle me on the streets? Would people email me to say they thought I was a moron? Of course not. But I do feel hesitation when entering unfamiliar territory. It’s a bit of perfectionism I suppose, and maybe a bit of insecurity – both useless emotions.
Of course, in the end, I’m incredibly proud of my work (and try not to look at the typos).
In fact, I’m so prod I’m sharing my first Letter from the Editor. You can see it here. If you are in the Park Slope area, pick up a copy. It’s a great read, and you might learn something about the area. If you’re not in Brooklyn, you can learn a little more about this neighborhood by checking it out online.
This just proves to me that all obstacles can be conquered. In doing so, we become stronger.

How exciting for you! I'm not from Brooklyn (a Nutmegger as you may know), but I still enjoyed reading your letter!
